S420M and S420ML are hot-rolled flat weldable fine-grained structural steel with a thickness less than 120mm. SA514 grade E steel material, S420 steel is a non-alloy structural steel. The S420ML steel is composed of the following parts: S (structural steel); 420: the yield strength value of structural steel with a thickness less than 16mm: not less than 420; M represents his delivery status, that is, hot mechanical rolling; L: The impact when the temperature is not lower than -50 degrees is marked with a capital letter L.

After quenching and tempering, 40Cr alloy steel plate and SA514 grade E steel material sheet have good comprehensive mechanical properties, good low temperature impact toughness and low notch sensitivity. The hardenability of steel SA514 grade E steel material is good. It can be hardened to Ф28 ~ 60mm during water quenching and Ф15 ~ 40mm during oil quenching. In addition to quenching and tempering, this steel is also suitable for cyanidation and induction hardening. The cutting performance is better. When the hardness is HB174 ~ 229, the relative cutting workability is 60%. 40Cr alloy steel is suitable for making medium-sized plastic molds.

Both steelmaking and ironmaking are carried out by oxidation-reduction reaction, but there are great differences between them in reaction objects: ironmaking is to reduce iron, while SA514 grade E steel material steelmaking is to remove excessive carbon and other impurities in pig iron, so there are relations and differences between them in actual operation. There are three main methods of SA514 grade E steel material steelmaking: converter, electric furnace and flat furnace. The converter steelmaking process is most widely used.

API 5L steel is pipeline steel mainly for use in oil and gas industry. API 5L steel has PSL1 and PSL2 levels. For same API 5L steel grade, the carbon content for PSL1 is higher than PSL2. Meanwhile, the API 5L PSL2 steel has more strict requirement for P, S content than API 5L PSL1 steel, SA514 grade E steel material. Therefore, API 5L PSL2 steel strength is higher than API 5L PSL1 steel strength. For example, API 5L X42 PSL2 yield strength is 317-524 MPa, tensile strength is 434-758 MPa. While API 5L X42 PSL1 yield strength is 290 MPa min. , tensile strength is 414 MPa min.
